[Check_mk (english)] Distributed Monitoring Graphs: Update failed (0)

Hi,

I have an issue that has occurred, which I'm not sure how to fix?

The issue is: When you hover the mouse over the graph icon for hosts monitored on a remote (slave) Check_MK instance, the graphs do not show.
Instead, I get the message 'Update failed (0)'. I can follow the graph link and see them on the remote (slave) Check_MK instance without issue, but for some reason it is no displaying them when viewed from the local (master) site.

All hosts monitored on the local site display the graphs fine, it is only hosts which are monitored on a remote site.

Do you have any idea what could be causing this? I assume it is a configuration problem somewhere.

Kind regards,
James

I seems to have similar issue - although in my case I also have to click each day on each slave and log in before I can see the graphs - Im using LDAP authentication and have on all slaves and master configuration options:

Hi James and Pawel,

* which CMK version are you using at master and slave sites?
* RAW, Enterprise or ManagedService edition
* does this occur with all slave sites or just "a few"?
* in distributed monitoring, what did you configure for "URL prefix"
in configuration of affected sites?

@Pawel, regarding the relogin issue: did you configure "Login session
idle timeout" in global settings or site-globals of the affected site?

Regards,
Marcel

HI Marcel,

I am using OMD with RAW 1.5.p4 on master and slaves. The issue occurs on all slaves.
Yes the URL is set to https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/
And Multisite-URL of remote site: https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/check_mk/
All slaves have the same configuration. After Initial "update failed" if I log in to all slaves - I can click on icon and it will open graphs. If I do that mouse over then updates when back on host list and shows correctly.

Hi Marcel,

I am also using OMD RAW: 1.5.p5 on master and all slaves.
Again, the URL is set to https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/
And Multisite-URL of remote site: https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/check_mk/
All slaves have the same configuration.

The issue occurs with all slaves. Even if I log into the slave (by pressing the graph button), I still will not see the graphs on the master, when hovering over the graph icon.

Kind regards,
James

HI Marcel,

In my case all sites are running on OMD instances with apache listening on port 5000.
If I remove 5000 from URL and try to activate changes then I get following error:
State: Failed. Started at: 17:10:19. Finished at: 17:10:19.
Failed: HTTPSConnectionPool(host=SLAVE-Hostname', port=443): Max retries exceeded with url: /<sitename>/check_mk/automation.py?command=push-snapshot&debug=&secret=<removed>&siteid=wake1 (Caused by NewConnectionError(': Failed to establish a new connection: [Errno 113] No route to host',))

So the port 5000 is correct in my set up – although it seems like it does log out – even that Login Session timeout idle is “unset” in global settings. Second issue is that I’ve just noticed that some slaves (I have 5 of them) even though authenticated and if I click on it opens graphs (with URL having port 5000) still on moves hover shows “Update failed (0)”

Subject: Re: [Check_mk (english)] Distributed Monitoring Graphs: Update failed (0)

HI Marcel,

I am using OMD with RAW 1.5.p4 on master and slaves. The issue occurs on all slaves.
Yes the URL is set to https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/
And Multisite-URL of remote site: https://slave-hostname:5000/sitename/check_mk/
All slaves have the same configuration. After Initial "update failed" if I log in to all slaves - I can click on icon and it will open graphs. If I do that mouse over then updates when back on host list and shows correctly.

@Pawel, regarding the relogin issue: did you configure "Login session idle timeout" in global settings or site-globals of the affected site?

Regards,
Marcel

Hi,
I have an issue that has occurred, which I’m not sure how to fix?
The issue is: When you hover the mouse over the graph icon for hosts monitored on a remote (slave) Check_MK instance, the graphs do not show.
Instead, I get the message ‘Update failed (0)’.
Kind regards,
James

I seem to remember having to install the mod_proxy module in apache
and then configuring rewrite rules in /etc/httpd/conf.d/multisite_proxy.conf
for each slave site connection, but that was back in the 1.2.4 CRE days....
mod_proxy may part of the distribution now.

example multisite_proxy.conf entry:
#---
<Location /sitename>
    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteRule ^/.+/sitename/(.*) https://slavefqdn/sitename/$1 [P]
</Location>
#---

change "sitename" to the name of the slave site
change "slavefqdn" to the FQDN of the slave server the site is on

In the Distributed Monitoring settings in WATO, for each site connection
the 'URL prefix' setting should be /sitename/
where sitename is the same as in the rewrite rule above

restart httpd to pick up the changes.
